Break Mission is a Community Hip-Hop events and educational (CIC) that brings people together to experience a cultural understanding of what the Hip-Hop community is really about and also raising awareness of the homeless situation in our local community through dance, music and art as a way of giving back with clothes and food donations as entry to the events themselves. We are also a registered community interest company in the UK(Company No.9316822 ) which was created in 2012 by David Russell, also known as ‘Footloose’ and Justin Lie, known as ‘JustRoc’. The original concept of Break Mission was inspired by a Break Dance event which was held in Bronx, New York by Aby from The Bronx Boys rocking Crew 1975 original concrete rocking crew and it required ‘no entry fees but food and clothes.

The vision of Break Mission is to “give back” to the community by working with charities in order to help homeless people in the UK and around the world, to support the local community though holding events by collecting food and recycled clothes.

The theme of our events is ‘Donate to Participate’. We only require our attendees to bring non-perishable food or recycled clothes to the event instead of paying any entry fees. All the goods will be given to local charity depends on the event location. In the UK, we had worked with Wood Street Mission in Manchester and, in Malaysia, The Pusat Old Folks Home and many other local charities around the world.

In the past six years Break Mission had already held more than 40 successful events and workshops, which included in the UK (e.g. Manchester and Birmingham), Europe (e.g. Hungary, Italy and France), Middle East (Jordan), USA (New York), Oceania (New Zealand) and in Asia (e.g. South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong).

Our community are getting bigger and bigger and most importantly, our goal is to make Break Mission become a worldwide community to reach every country on Earth. We are hoping to keep our passion in what we love and believe in and, to support charities to help homeless people in the UK as well as to have more and more people and organisations to join our Break Mission community. #Breakmission

About the co-founders

Justin "Justroc" Lie

Known for his raw and energetic breaking style, Justin ‘JustRoc’ Lie of the Mighty Zulu Kingz began his journey as a Bboy in 2005 at a relatively late age of 21 while studying in University in the UK . Since his first exposure to the Bboy culture, JustRoc has been pushing himself to learn as much as he can from those before him and to make a name for himself in the scene.  Over the last 13 years, he has been building and learning from some of the most influential figures in the scene and have always made it a point to “pay his dues” by representing himself in cyphers and competitions all over the world.  Some of his biggest mentors and teachers include Bboy Mouse, DJ/Bboy Timber and Bboy Bounce to name but a few.  He has represented in almost every continent in the world and his passion for travelling and representing has never stopped since he first started in 2005 and he is currently based back in his birthplace of Hong Kong.

Some of the titles he won over the 13 years include Freestyle Session Japan 2009 as a member of Floor Gangz, Zou Rock 10th Anniversary, Soul Flow Jam 10th Anniversary, Dragon Style Anniversary as well as many others. JustRoc is a proud member of Mighty Zulu Kingz worldwide after being battled in officially in the Zulu Nation 40th Anniversary in New York in 2013.

As a active person in the Hip Hop community, JustRoc is also the co-founder of the worldwide charity Hip Hop event 'Break Mission' back in 2012, which aim to support the community by providing a free jam in return for food and clothing donations to give to those in need. As well as that JustRoc is a strong believer of Poe One’s philosophy “Each One Teach One” and has been teaching workshops extensively for the past 7 years in countries such as Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Italy, Israel, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Taiwan, Belgium, Japan, Australia, Belgium, Korea, Malaysia, Tunisia, USA, New Zealand etc.

David “Footloose” Russell is a B-Boy (Breakdancer) who fell in love with Hip-Hop culture at the age of 27, always being a fan of Hip-Hop music since the age of 14 listening to Big L, Big Pun, Biggie, Cypress Hill.

He found an escape by listening to this music as well as rock music to escape his Homelife, smoking weed and drinking was also a way to escape from what tragedies he was going through as a teenager from abuse in the family to violence and prison which left him with anxiety attacks and panic attacks. He used Hip-Hop music to listen and become someone else through the lyrics and related to what the words said in the songs which relied the feelings he had inside

At 27 he found out about what real Hip-Hop culture was the five elements B-Boying, DJaying, Graffiti, MC’ing plus the most important Knowledge, Knowledge of self and all the things around you to make yourself a better person, co-founded an event called Break Mission in 2012 which helps raise clothes and food for the areas it works in, instead of charging money on the door you just bring clothes or food donations to help the local homeless. This gave him focus and direction to make it one of the biggest Hip-Hop events in the U.K as it was very close to his heart going through the struggle of homelessness himself. Dance has made it easier for him to cope with feelings that still trouble him today but with the freedom of The Way Of The B-boy he now lets those feelings come out in his dance style through self expression and being happy in the music.
